摘要:High-refractive-index-contrast optical waveguides can enable ultra-small waveguide with cross-section dimension below 1 mu m and bending radii smaller than 20 mu m, facilitating the development of ultra-compact photonic integrated devices and circuits. For lithium niobate material, a high-refractive-index-contrast structure can be lithium niobate film on SiO2 cladding (lithium niobate on insulator, LNOI). Single-crystal LN thin film with 3-inch diameter was fabricated by ion implantation and directly bonding technologies. Integrated optics devices, such as waveguides, photonic crystal, micro-ring resonators, Y-splitters, and E-O phase modulators were developed. These LNOI based devices can have applications in high-density integrated optics with high efficiency.
