">We report on the green up-conversion emission from Er3+, MgO codoped nearly stoichiometric LiNbO3planar waveguides fabricated by the swift C5+ion irradiation. The characteristics of the waveguides are investigated by using a continuous wave laser at wavelength of 800 nm. The reconstructed distribution of the refractive index of the C ion irradiated waveguides shows a "barrier and well" profile. The up-conversion emissions of green light, corresponding to the transition of4H11/24I15/2and4S3/24I15/2bands, have been observed in the waveguides with intensity of 40% of that from the bulk. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.
