摘要:This study considers an example of university product design education practices targeted at elderly people, whose numbers will be increasing in China in the near future. For the purposes of this paper, from January 4–8, 2019, a workshop was held at China’s Shandong University of Art & Design. University students studying design in order to serve society attended the workshop, which was to give them the opportunity to think about elderly people. Twenty-nine second- and third-year students from the department participated in the workshop. The students split up into groups of four to five, and following brainstorming sessions, created idea sketches. Then, after a field trip to an actual facility for elderly people, individual students drew up final design proposals and gave presentations. Tanaka, a coauthor of this work responsible for teaching students, evaluated the presentations. Subsequently, university instructors teaching product design in China and Taiwan also performed evaluations. This paper discusses the workshop based mainly on these evaluations. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
