摘要:Two-levels of decision making can happen in automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) design and planning: long term (physical design) and short term (operation and control policy). In this work, we are interested in operations and control policies. More particularly, we consider the retrieval scheduling problem for the crane-based AS/RS system with compact storage and shuttles. In this system, the crane is in charge of the movement vertically and horizontally, and the shuttles are responsible for depth movement. A mixed-integer programing model is developed for the order picking sequencing problem and verified by a real-world case. The model is further applied to various layouts of the AS/RS system to provide insights of the system design, such as the appropriate number of shuttles. © 2018 Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE).
