摘要：This paper, using a mixed research method, analyzes the implications of designating Mount Taishan as World Heritage to the local villagers living around. Mount Taishan was enlisted by World Heritage Convention in 1987 as one of the four earliest world heritage sites in China. For conservation purposes, some local villagers were relocated out the mountain. The findings of the paper revealed that World Heritage designation, while enhanced significantly heritage tourism on the mountain, caused a series of changes on the local life: relocation, loss of land, and loss of traditional livelihoods. Involvement in tourism services became a major surviving means of the local villagers. This paper presents findings from Taiqian village as a case study and discussed relevant responses of the locals to the changes in their life including their involvement route and pattern to tourism on the world heritage mountain.
